VOICE TIP OF THE DAY
Monday, June 20th, 2016:
Have you ever been sitting in a dictation class and really felt the material flowing and your writing was good and then the speaker said a word you have never heard before? Or a name maybe currently in the news that you didn't know? You can't write a word that you don't know.
One of the best things you can do to improve your writing is to increase your vocabulary skills and knowledge. How can you do this? READ! Read anything! Reading local, state, and national newspapers are key to a reporter's vocabulary building skills. Even reading a fictional novel increases your lexicon. Don't know what "lexicon" means? Look it up! If you encounter a word you don't know and can't write, remember it and go look it up after the job or dictation.
A hesitation from a word unfamiliar can make you pause and miss 5 or six other words, right? So grab a book or newspaper or magazine and enrich your vocabulary! I promise it will make you a better writer and captioner!
Happy Talking!
